orphan and a mastectomy

so it has been quite the week.
first the day after Tic tac was born, he got colic(horse stomach ache) these can be deadly in horses, especially babys. we rushed him to the veterinary hospital, and found that he was just all stopped up (still very dangerous for a horse any age). they gave him a giant enema, and then you just wait, by the next morning he was doing great and we were told we could take him home the next day, but they wanted to keep his mom on HEAVY sedation, as she is not taking any of this well( she really wasnt taking to being a mom either, but she was too the dangerous point for both humans and her baby).
so she went on sedation and we were just waiting for saturday morning when we could take them home, but as things go not even a half hour from finding out we could pick them up the next day the vet calls me back and says there is a problem.
well while ultrasounding his stomach to make sure everything was moving, she also checked his bladder, and while looking at it, it disappeared (not in a good way) his bladder had burst while they were looking at his guts....so he was rushed to surgery, and after 4 1/2 hours they had repaired the 6-8" tear in his bladder, and he was all stitched up and ready for us to come see him.
Me, Doug and Preston show up to visit our baby, and while we are there we notice everytime Tic Tac moves his mommy is biting him (and not gently). i asked the vet and they said this is sometimes normal for the first few hours after surgery... so me and doug practically get kicked out cause visiting for the hospital our over they say we can come see him tomorrow (saturday).

so we show up the saturday @ 10 am to visit and we notice that Tic Tac is in the foal box out side the stall, well his Mom had put HUGE bite marks in his neck bandage so they moved him outside the stall. well the doctor informs us they have been feeding him in a bucket as our horse (mom) has been to dangerous to handle for the techs(dr assistant/ nurses) and that she is more harm to her baby then good, and they want to make him an orphan.
well my regular horse docotr says this can be a bad thing and to find a nurse mare, so we look all day and find one we can pick up in the morning, this isnt like you can just throw them together and expect miracles, they have to taught that the new baby is theirs.
so my dad and mom decide to help with this, lets just say people lie! when we picked up ythe mare they assured us she doesnt bite or kick! well after my dad got a masectomy from her and then Tic Tac got backed into a corner, and threatend with her hind legs, we were done and we took her back! so now we have an orphan baby horse who eats every three hours, luckily i have the nicest parents in the world and they do the night time feedings....except i think they just dont want me to stay the night!

That is so sad! Poor TicTac! Man, he's had a rough start...popping bladder, "orphaned"...at least he has humans that will take very good care of him (your parents are awesome! Every 3 hours, yikes!) And ouch, Poppie! (Though I must say it looks like you are losing weight, lookin' good! :)

hahaha! I'm sorry, but i was laughing all the way through the story and then reading the comments! I do feel sorry for Tic Tac, though. At least he has a great human family!

wow! so I guess that mare you told me about over the phone did not work out after all. :( sad that tic tac is an orphan and sheesh what a waste of your time when you already had a rough week!

Hope he does alright being an orphan. I just can't get over how cute he is!
